For the love of the Huskers
Compliment the Huskers
An invitation from Dawn Weir

Nebraska, let’s fill our Huskers with love.

From the Devaney Center to Memorial Stadium, nobody cheers like Nebraska. Now let’s say it in words. Write a sincere compliment for a Husker player, a coach or the whole team, in any sport. I’ll gather every one and share them with the team.

A gift from the fans, not an official team program.

This is a community invitation from Dawn Weir and Compliments for Change. The University of Nebraska and Husker Athletics haven’t partnered with or endorsed it. Every compliment is read with care and shared with the team as a gift.

How to write one that lands

Make it specific. Make it sincere.

A compliment a player remembers names something real and says why it matters.

  1. Step one

    Notice something real

Their effort, their teamwork, their courage, the way they treat teammates and fans.

  2. Step two

    Say why it matters

What it means to you, your kids, your family or your town.

  3. Step three

    Keep it about heart

Effort, character and team spirit. Never bodies or looks, and no favors attached.

To a player

“You dive for every ball like it matters, because to you it does. We see it from the top row.”

To the coaches

“You build players who lift each other up. That’s why little girls in this state want to play for you.”

To the team staff

“You tape the ankles, wash the jerseys and set up the court. Nobody cheers for it, so we will.”

From a little fan

“I wore my red bow to your game. When I grow up I want to play like you.”
